Matt Haworth is an aquatic specialist with over 10 years of experience setting up and maintaining aquariums, and 9 years in the natural history TV industry.
After successfully managing complex aquarium systems in the heart of London for over 6 years, Matt transitioned to the TV industry, where he has had the opportunity to work with renowned underwater camera operators worldwide. His expertise lies in setting up state-of-the-art systems that consistently push the boundaries of aquatic set filming.
Since venturing into TV, Matt has worked on a diverse range of projects with prominent production companies such as NHK, Silverback, and Plimsoll. His work has been featured in programmes commissioned by industry giants including Apple, Disney, Netflix, Nat Geo, and the BBC. Moreover, his experience as an Assistant Producer allows him to artfully craft the narrative of each scene and meticulously plan the necessary steps to bring it to life.
Matt's journey began with an MSc. in Marine Biology followed by training at the prestigious London Zoo and then the Sea Life London aquarium where he rose to a senior-level position managing numerous systems and environments. Matt has assisted with coral reef surveys in the field and worked with world renowned octopus scientists at the Seattle Aquarium. He remains at the forefront of the field, constantly staying updated on the latest developments and innovations. During his career, he has built and expanded aquatic systems at bespoke film studios in the UK and also maintained a private aquarium on a 125m super-yacht.
Matt's expertise encompasses a wide range of habitats and hundreds of aquatic species, including tropical, temperate, marine, and freshwater fish, invertebrates, as well as amphibians, reptiles, and birds. His competence in building tanks and systems on location is invaluable for various purposes, such as breeding, raising larvae, growing corals, and eliciting natural behaviours. As an avid diver with the HSE Part IV Media Diver qualification and his own rEvo CCR kit, Matt has spent significant time underwater observing these animals in their natural habitats as well as in the tanks he maintains.
Being an active member of the aquarium community, Matt has developed an extensive network within zoological institutions. He regularly attends conferences and is a respected professional member of BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums).
